Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to perform a large variety of skilled tasks related to the carpenter’s craft. An incumbent must have the ability to perform new work construction as well as perform structural repairs to current buildings and construct or repair furniture.

All activities must support the Cambridge Housing Authority’s(“Authority” or “CHA”) strategic goals and objectives and produce results that accomplish the goals of the Operations department.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Must have valid Massachusetts driver’s license and be insurable under CHA policies. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must be able to successfully pass the Carpenter’s Test.

Technical Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a strong background in math, measurements and safety as well as strong technical and construction skills, including framing walls and partitions, installing doors and windows, building stairs, and installing cabinets and molding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lifts heavy objects and works with and without assistance
• Performs renovations and new work construction, erects rough framing and completes finish trim
• Designs, fabricates and installs finished business office furniture such as shelves, bookcases and tables
• Maintains tools, materials and work space in a neat and orderly manner, observing all Authority and OSHA safety regulations
• Performs other related duties as assigned
