Job summary

Tulane University Translational Science Institute is seeking a carpentry professional to perform repairs, new installations, and preventive maintenance to industry standards on a range of rough and finish carpentry tasks. The role includes fabrication and assembly of furniture, doors, cabinets, countertops, and trim installations, with collaboration across trades.

The position is essential personnel, with duties possibly requiring reporting for duty during emergencies and critical projects.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, or 1–3 months related experience and/or training.
  • Experience constructing various door systems in walls and both sheet rock and suspended acoustical ceiling tiles.
  • Experience in mill work and floor finishing work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs, new installations, and preventive maintenance according to industry standards.
  • Perform a full range of rough and finished skilled carpentry work, including fabrication and/or assembly of furniture, doors, cabinets and countertops, and installation of trim and wall accessories.
  • Assist all other trades as directed and perform general maintenance tasks.

Job description

Under supervision and using tools and materials for general carpentry, perform repairs, new installations, and preventive maintenance according to industry standards in the trade. The Carpenter will perform a full range of rough and finished skilled carpentry work, including fabrication and/or assembly of furniture, doors, cabinets and counter tops, and installation of trim and wall accessories. Perform other tasks by assisting all other trades as directed and perform general maintenance tasks.

This is an Essential Personnel position, which can require that the incumbent must report for duty and work through emergencies, and also can be designated by the supervisor as essential for the accomplishment of work, or for the completion of a critical task.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in construction of various door systems in walls and both sheet rock and suspended acoustical ceiling tiles.

Experience in mill work and floor finishing work.
