Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of residential construction or apartment-building experience.
  • Experience with framing, drywall, trim, doors, windows, cabinets, and finish carpentry.
  • Power tools including skill saws, miter saws, and jigsaws.
  • OSHA safety training completed.
  • Basic hand tools and reliable transportation.
  • Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and good driving record.
  • Ability to travel between CHA properties

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair doors, frames, locks, windows, cabinets, countertops, and trim.
  • Perform rough and finish carpentry, including framing, drywall, molding, and partitions.
  • Repair flooring, tile, stairs, handrails, fences, siding, and other building components.
  • Perform basic concrete and roofing repairs.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, measurements, and construction specifications.
  • Inspect properties and identify necessary carpentry repairs.
  • Estimate and order required materials and supplies.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Follow OSHA requirements, building codes, and job-site safety procedures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and other related duties as assigned.

SUMMARY


Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) is seeking an experienced Carpenter to perform renovation, repair, and maintenance work throughout residential properties within the CHA portfolio. The Carpenter will complete skilled carpentry projects, preventive maintenance, capital improvements, and emergency repairs and must be able to travel between multiple Chicago locations.


Compensation: This position is paid according to the applicable Davis-Bacon wage determination, including required hourly wages and fringe benefits.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Install and repair doors, frames, locks, windows, cabinets, countertops, and trim.

  • Perform rough and finish carpentry, including framing, drywall, molding, and partitions.

  • Repair flooring, tile, stairs, handrails, fences, siding, and other building components.

  • Perform basic concrete and roofing repairs.

  • Read blueprints, drawings, measurements, and construction specifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Completion of an accredited Carpenter Apprenticeship Program with two years of journeyman-level experience, Associate degree in a related field, or four years of equivalent experience.

  • At least two years of residential construction or apartment‑building experience.

  • Experience with framing, drywall, trim, doors, windows, cabinets, and finish carpentry.

  • Knowledge of power tools, including skill saws, miter saws, and jigsaws.

  • Completed OSHA safety training required.

  • Basic hand tools and reliable transportation required.

  • Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and good driving record.

  • Ability to travel between CHA properties


WORKING ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be frequently exposed to moving equipment, mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock while in the field. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally high and usually moderate.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to stand, climb, bend, kneel, and work from ladders or scaffolding. Must frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift heavier materials with appropriate assistance.
