S.M.H. Construction Co., Inc. is seeking a Carpenter to build concrete formwork for major heavy civil and infrastructure projects in the Charleston, WV area.

You will measure, cut, assemble, and install wooden formwork and modular frames for large-scale pours, working with senior field leaders on high-visibility public works. This full-time position features a four-day workweek with Fridays off, competitive prevailing wages, a 401(k) plan, comprehensive medical insurance options, and safety gear

Qualifications

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in residential framing, commercial carpentry, or formwork.
• Proficient with standard trade power tools, measuring devices and cutting equipment.

Responsibilities

• Measure, cut, assemble, and construct wooden and modular formwork for large-scale poured concrete structures.
• Build framing systems, bridge forms, and containment structures with high precision.
• Collaborate daily with the Superintendent and Carpenter Foreman on advanced techniques.
• Operate hand and power carpentry tools safely and maintain a clean, organized site.
• Support field teams to maintain progress across sites.

Carpenter – Build Concrete Formwork for Civil Infrastructure with S.M.H. Construction Co., Inc.

Job Overview

• Company: S.M.H. Construction Co., Inc.
• Salary/Pay Rate: $29–$33 per hour + $13 per hour toward insurance and retirement.
• Location: Charleston, WV (work sites typically within 90 minutes)
• Job/Employment Type: Full Time
• Schedule: Monday – Thursday (Fridays Off)
• Project Scope: Commercial, Government, and Federal Heavy Civil Infrastructure

The Opportunity

You will serve as a core trade specialist executing critical concrete formwork for major heavy civil and infrastructure projects across the region. Working alongside seasoned leaders, you will expand your structural carpentry skills while constructing high-visibility public works. This role offers long-term stability, competitive prevailing wages, and a predictable schedule with every Friday off.

How You Will Make An Impact

• Measure, cut, assemble, and construct wooden and modular formwork for large-scale poured concrete structures.
• Build framing systems, bridge forms, and specialized concrete containment structures with high precision.
• Partner daily with the Superintendent and Carpenter Foreman to adopt advanced heavy civil construction techniques.
• Operate standard hand and power carpentry tools safely while adhering strictly to site safety guidelines.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area to support continuous operational progress across field teams.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in residential house framing, commercial carpentry, or formwork.
• Demonstrated proficiency using standard trade power tools, measuring devices, and cutting equipment safely.
• Strong knowledge of job site safety protocols specific to heavy civil construction field operations.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Direct experience building concrete forms for heavy civil, bridge, or federal infrastructure construction projects.
• Active mechanical aptitude paired with a desire to learn advanced trade methods from senior field leadership.
• Proven ability to accurately read, evaluate, and interpret complex construction plans and blueprints.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
