Job summary

Union Tank Car Company, part of Marmon Holdings, invites applicants to join our production team at the Ville Platte, Louisiana rail car shop. You will perform cutting and welding operations, align and weld components, and participate in repairs and fabrication while upholding strict safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include welding tank car components, using air arc cutting torch and welding equipment, and maintaining a clean, safe work area; training apprentices when needed.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma, GED, or pass a Combined Basic Skills Test
• Must pass the applicable welding test as prescribed by the company
• Demonstrate job related computational knowledge; for example, be able to read a ruler
• Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently
• Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructions
• Safety and quality focused
• Willingness to wear required PPE at all times and always work safely.
• Be available to work any shift, and be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime, as allowed per the union contract

• Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment
• Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag or spatter
• Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc., using various hand and power tools
• Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required
• Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards

Primary Job Functions

Environmental & Working Conditions

• Moderate to heavy physical effort involved. Lifts and carries necessary equipment tocarto perform operation. Climbs, walks, and balances on top ofcarwhile welding.
• Possibility of exposure to x-ray radiation hazards.
• Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoidpossible injury.
• Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind off excess weld slag or spatter.
