Job summary

Rockland is seeking an animal care associate in the Montgomery County area to monitor animal behavior, maintain health records, and assist with daily husbandry including cage changes, feeding, and humane handling. You will report health and facility issues to the Manager and follow all SOPs to ensure safe operations.

The role requires dependable attendance, ability to lift 50 pounds, and the stamina to work in a noisy, warm environment while performing various duties and training tasks.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach, lift, push and pull equipment during a minimum 8-hour day in a noisy, warm and humid environment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and observe animal behavior.
• Maintain health records for animal species.
• Assist with animal husbandry: change cages, feed/water animals with specialized techniques and equipment; learn to handle species safely and humanely.
• Report issues related to animal husbandry, facilities, or veterinary health to the Manager.
• Follow all animal health SOPs.
• Assess cage/equipment conditions and recommend repairs or replacements.
• Maintain sanitation of work area, equipment, and facility.
• Participate in on-the-job training to develop new skills and policies (SOP training, cage wash training, safety training, etc.).
• Provide adequate quantities of clean feed and water daily.
• Prepare cages and provide beds and other supplies.
• Perform facilities maintenance as needed.
• Track supplies and inventory to support daily activities.
• Weigh or restrain animals for procedures when required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities include:

• Monitor and observe animal behavior
• Maintain records regarding the health of various animal species
• Perform and assist with animal husbandry to include the changing cages, feeding/watering animals using specialized techniques and equipment, and developing skills necessary to handle various animal species safely and humanely
• Report any issues related to animal husbandry, facilities, or veterinary health issues to the Manager.
• Follow all animal health SOPs
• Assess conditions of caging/equipment and make recommendations for equipment repair or replacement
• Maintain and ensure proper sanitation of work area, equipment, and facility
• Participation in on-the-job training required to develop new skills, learn new techniques, and implement new policies including but not limited to: SOP training, cage wash training, safety training, etc.
• Provide adequate quantities of clean feed and water to designated animals daily
• Prepare cages and provide sufficient quantities of clean and bedded cages, as well as other supplies and materials
• Facilities maintenance as needed and requested
• Track and maintain adequate supplies and inventory to support daily activities throughout facilities.
• Weigh or restrain animals when required for various technical procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned
