At Family Relief Resources (FRR), our mission is to provide families and clients with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities with the quality, person-centered daily care they need. We provide qualified DSPs who have a passion and drive to help these individuals, with a positive, stable, and highly compensated work opportunity. 1C0457G

Location: Northeast Portland
Schedule: 3 days a week, 4-hour shifts, open to discuss with the client and family.

We are seeking a caring, patient, and gender-affirming DSP to support an almost 20-year-old transgender man. He is looking for someone who will respect and support his identity while helping him build independence and confidence in daily life. He enjoys talking about animation, creative interests, and other topics that are important to him, and would benefit from a DSP who enjoys conversation and building a genuine connection.

The client has cerebral palsy, scoliosis, and autism, and experiences pain with walking. He is looking for support with developing independent living skills, including budgeting, money management, tracking expenses, making purchases, meal planning and preparation, and other daily living tasks. He would also like support creating a living space that better reflects his personality and interests. The ideal DSP will be encouraging, dependable, and committed to supporting his goals while promoting independence, self-confidence, and community involvement.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide support with daily living skills and increasing independence in the home and community.
  • Support meal planning, grocery shopping, grocery list creation, and meal preparation.
  • Assist with budgeting, money management, and making informed spending decisions.
  • Support independent living skills related to household management and daily routines.
  • Assist with organizing and personalizing his living space to reflect his interests and personality.
  • Encourage participation in community activities, hobbies, and recreational outings.
  • Engage in conversations about animation and other topics of interest while building social confidence and self-advocacy skills.
  • Provide mobility support as needed while encouraging independence and participation in daily activities.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance.
  • Must be willing and able to provide transportation and accompany the client to activities and appointments in the community.
  • Must be respectful, inclusive, and gender-affirming.
  • Must be patient, positive, and dependable.
  • Ability to build a supportive and encouraging relationship with the client.
  • Experience supporting individuals with physical disabilities is preferred but not required.
Direct Support Professional (DSP) / In Home Care Giver Responsibilities and Duties:

This role involves caring for a client on an individual basis in their home environment as well as taking them out into the community to learn skills and socialize. This role varies depending on the client but can involve teaching skills of independent living such as self-care, behavior management, budgeting, cooking, shopping and cleaning. • Documenting

  • Patient, Kind, and Positive
    - Helping those with disabilities requires a person who can be patient in all situations, show kindness, and have a positive attitude toward the client and other members of the client’s family even in challenging situations.
