Job summary

Home Instead in Edgewood, IA is seeking a Care Professional who understands that dementia care goes beyond presence. You will engage, redirect, anticipate needs, and stay close when safety matters most.

This weekday assignment is 16 hours per week with pay between $16.00 and $18.00 per hour. Benefits include paid training, PTO, health coverage, a 401(k) with company match up to 4%, and 24/7 on‑call support.

Home Instead is looking for a Care Professional who understands that great dementia care is more than simply being present. We’re looking for someone who can engage, redirect, anticipate needs, and stay close when safety matters most.

This weekday assignment supports a gentleman living at home in Edgewood area with Parkinson’s disease and dementia who is also receiving hospice services. He remains conversational, has a great sense of humor, and enjoys westerns, golf magazines, puzzles, cards, his cats, and spending time with people who genuinely engage with him.

Pay & Benefits

Competitive Pay: $16.00–$18.00/hour

Shift Schedule

Tuesday and Wednesday

5:00 pm to 9:00 pm

This is a consistent 16-hour-per-week opportunity.

Fill in shifts may become available

Other shifts with clients within a 25 mile radius may also be available

What We're Looking For

This role specifically prioritizes companionship, mental stimulation, and fall prevention over housekeeping.

• Dementia care experience
• Calm redirection rather than arguing or repeatedly correcting
• Supporting someone experiencingsundowning behaviors
• Hands-on transfer and mobility assistance
• Staying alert to a significant fall risk—the client may stand suddenly without warning
• Toileting assistance and hands-on hygiene
• Dressing and evening grooming support
• Oral care, including denture routines
• Medication reminders as directed by the care plan
• Preserving independence while quietly maintaining safety
• Recognizing changes and communicating concerns promptly
• Being comfortable in a home with multiple cats
