Job summary

Eckerd Connects in Washington, DC is seeking a Career Transition Specialist to support CTS assignees with job search skills, placement issues, and career preparation within the Job Corps program.

Responsibilities include maintaining caseloads, conducting interviews, coordinating with external resources, and ensuring timely placements or re-engagement in training or schooling. Requires a related degree and driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, business, communications, or closely related field.
  • Associates degree in related field with two years related experience.
  • Must pass drug screen and background check.
  • Valid driver's license in the state of employment with acceptable driving record preferred.

Responsibilities

  • CTS assignees managed in all aspects of career transition, job search skills, placement issues, retention and CTS services.
  • Secure placement data for assignees and reconnect those no longer employed or in school with another placement or program.
  • Interview students preparing to exit the center and provide re-orientation and job search guidance.
  • Maintain a caseload of active assignee files and a tickler system for caseload management.
  • Bi-weekly or monthly contact via telephone and in person; document actions in CTS case notes.
  • Visit classrooms/trade shops to explain CTS processes, employability skills and opportunities.
  • Coordinate with military services, One Stops and other resources; post job leads and arrange transportation and support services.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • The Career Transition Specialist is responsible for CTS assignees in all aspects of career transition, job search skills, job placement issues, job retention and Job Corps CTS services and requirements.
  • The Career Transition Specialist is responsible for securing placement data for assignees and identifying assignees who are no longer employed or in school and ensure reconnection with another placement, school, or military within the service window.
  • Conducts interviews with students preparing to exit the center. Provides re- orientation and further focuses on job search techniques.
  • Creates and maintains a caseload of active assignee files, establishing a tickler system for caseload management. Maintains bi-weekly or monthly contact through telephone and/or in person and documents all actions in CTS case notes.
  • Visits classrooms and trade shops to familiarize students with CTS processes, employability skills, career preparation, job search, job retention, etc. Familiarizes students with military, school and job opportunities and offers.
  • Maintains linkages with military services, One Stops and other external resources; maintains job banks; secures and posts job leads; sets up job interviews; arranges transportation assistance and other support services. Performs job development by screening leads from newspaper classifieds, telephone, personal contacts, referrals, internet, and other youth service organizations.
  • Tracks individual performance through regular checks of POMS reports for correct information on all caseload students.
  • Complete appeals process and verifies placements to reconcile any errors in 6/12- month surveys.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, business, communications, or closely related field; or
    • Associates degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, business, communications, or closely related field and two years related experience
  • Prefer Job Corps experience; valid drivers license in the state of employment with acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.
