Job summary

Southern Careers Institute is hiring for a career services-focused role in Texas to help students and graduates secure employment in their field of study.

You will build relationships with employers, coordinate job placements, and lead outreach to employers while engaging with students in classroom settings. A background in recruiting, education, or sales is ideal, with strong communication and time-management skills driving success.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years practical work experience required; Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree and five years of related experience preferred
• Experience in career services or employment background in education, staffing, recruiter, government sponsorship, or marketing/sales is desirable
• Access to reliable transportation with ability and willingness to travel
• Familiarity with the local job market
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Build effective relationships with local and regional employers, nonprofits, government organizations and community partners to identify employment opportunities for students and alumni
• Develop and implement plans and strategies to achieve graduate employment goals
• Conduct site visits to enhance existing relationships with employers/sites and establish new partnership opportunities
• Locate new employment sites, maintain contact with employers, and coordinate placement activities (resume submittals, interviews); document all employer relations activities in the Student Administrative System
• Maintain a database of employment opportunities and career resources
• Coordinate panel discussions with industry experts for student/graduate attendance
• Attend industry-related networking events to build potential employer database
• Plan and conduct meetings/workshops on job search topics for students and alumni
• Coordinate and attend Job/Career Fairs; participate in campus and off-campus events
• Maintain awareness of employment and industry trends and discuss research with Career Services and Education department
• Maintain contact with graduates via follow-up calls, e-mails, texts, etc.

Job description

Ideally, this candidate will have a background in recruiting, education, or sales, as the role requires strong relationship-building skills with both students and employers. Excellent time management is essential, along with the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

This individual will play a critical role in supporting our graduates as they transition into the workforce. Responsibilities will include assisting students in securing employment within their chosen field of study, proactively reaching out to employers to understand hiring needs and job qualifications, and helping students identify and overcome any barriers to employment.

The candidate must also be comfortable speaking in front of a classroom, as they will regularly engage with students in group settings. Above all, we are looking for someone with a genuine passion for education and a strong commitment to student success.

• Coordinate and attend Job / Career Fairs; participate in campus and off-campus events, including graduation and marketing events;
• Actively maintain an awareness of employment and industry trends and discuss research with Career Services and Education department as appropriate;
• Maintain contact with graduates by generating follow-up calls, e-mails, texts, etc.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years practical work experience required; Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree and five years of related experience preferred
• Experience in career services preferred or employment background in any of the following: job placement at a vocational school, college, or university; staffing agency, recruiter; government sponsorship agency; or marketing/sales;
• Access to reliable transportation with ability and willingness to travel;
• Familiarity with the local job market;
• Work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
