Job description

Purpose

The Career Services Associate supports the event operations of Liberal Arts Career Services for the Department of Economics, with a primary focus on event logistics and coordination. This role offers hands‑on experience in professional event execution within a university career development environment, spanning employer information sessions, on‑campus interviews, featured speakers and panels, and student workshops and socials.

Responsibilities
  • Support event logistics including catering receiving and setup, room and technology setup and breakdown, and materials preparation
  • Serve as the day‑of point of contact before and during events, directing students, alumni, and employers to appropriate spaces and troubleshooting last‑minute logistics
  • Maintain and organize shared physical and digital resources such as signage, name badges, promotional materials, and event supply inventory
  • Research information about employers, industries, alumni, and other topics relevant to supporting the career development of Economics majors
  • Research and compile relevant events, jobs, and internship opportunities for posting on Canvas and 12twenty
Required Qualifications
  • Has accepted Federal Work‑Study Award
  • Meet minimum enrollment requirements (6 course hours during the long semester)
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pursuing a degree in Economics, Business Administration, Human Dimensions of Organizations, or a related field
  • Available to work events primarily held Tuesday through Thursday, 3:30–7:30pm
  • Prior experience in event coordination, hospitality, or a customer‑facing role
  • Familiarity with 12twenty or similar career management platforms
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Comfortable working independently and taking initiative in fast‑paced event environments
  • Professional demeanor when engaging with students, alumni, employer partners, and university staff
Job Details

Position Open To: All Applicants

Weekly Scheduled Hours: 15

FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt from FLSA

Earliest Start Date: Immediately

Position Duration: Expected to Continue Until May 15, 2027

Location: UT MAIN CAMPUS

Work Shift Schedule varies based on event needs. Hours primarily fall Tuesday through Thursday, 3:30‑7:30pm, though occasional Monday or Friday availability may be required.

Salary

Salary Range $18.00/hour

Work Conditions

This position operates in a typical office environment with work extending into on‑campus event spaces. Physical tasks include standing, lifting, and transporting materials during event setup and breakdown. Evening hours are required, primarily Tuesday through Thursday from 3:30‑7:30pm.
