We are looking to hire a part-time Career Services Advisor to work 20 hours per week for our Iowa City OR Mount Pleasant location! This position requires an associate’s degree or two years of study from a college/university, and one year of employment in a related field such as recruiting, supervisory, or training. One year of additional related work experience can be substituted for up to one year of study. This position has the potential to be placed at either the Iowa City office location, or our new Mount Pleasant Career Center.
Our Career Services Advisor works with community members who would like assistance with career planning and accessing short term job training to earn industry recognized credentials. Advisors help community members in job search activities, building computer skills, and other skill development opportunities! This position provides skill assessments for each job seeker to assist them in locating resources and tools for their desired goals, as well as maintaining and using that knowledge. Career Services Advisors assist job seekers in securing employment in the community by aiding with basic job search activities, resume writing, skill workshops, interview skills, and other employment activities. This position also assists with building and maintaining partnerships with area businesses, organizations, and schools to represent and market Goodwill resources to fit workforce needs.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensure participants complete the registration process for services.
- Provide basic skill assessment of each participant and assist them to create goals and locate the appropriate resource or tools needed for their desired goal.
- Maintain and use knowledge of current labor market trends to assist participants and with job applications.
- Assist participants to secure employment in the community through building digital literacy, basic job search activities, resume writing, interviewing, and other employment related activities.
- Assist with the development and sustainment of partnerships with area businesses and community agencies, organizations and schools to represent and market HCC resources.
- Identify participant support needs, work with Career Navigator to coordinate referral and wrap around support needs.
- Schedule and coordinate on-site and virtual training for individuals and groups.
- Assist with proctoring, certification and credential activities as directed for digital skills and
- other courses.
- Develop and manage training and hiring event schedule for Career Center.
- Coordinate with other Goodwill team members to provide up to date information about schedule of activities for the website.
- Contact participants to follow up regarding job placement, needed services and satisfaction.
- Responsible for recruiting coverage in the Career Center during operating hours.
- Recruit, train and supervise volunteers as needed to assist in the Career Center.

Qualifications
- An Associate's degree or two years of study completed from a college/university is required.
- One year of employment in a related field such as recruiting, supervisory, or training is required. An additional year of employment in a related field may be substituted.
- Reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance required
- Successful completion of a motor vehicle, child/elder dependent abuse background check, and sex offender registry check required
- Demonstrable literacy in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Teams/Zoom, and other computer skills required
- Home base for this position can be either Iowa City or Mount Pleasant.
The Career Services Advisor position has a starting wage of $18.63 per hour. The anticipated schedule will be Monday-Friday daytime hours with some flexibility required. Must be 18 years of age or older.
