Job Title: Career Navigator

Position Classification: Non-Exempt

Office Location: Milwaukee, WI

Wage: $19.00 to $20.00 per hour

Your Impact

As a Career Navigator, you will work with job and career seekers to provide the skills and resources needed to find and maintain self‑sustaining employment. You will also help employers locate the talent they need to thrive. Your success will be measured by meeting goals and helping customers secure jobs.

Primary Objectives of Position

The career navigator provides integrated workforce planning services to career center customers, aiding them in developing, evaluating, and implementing plans to find employment or career skills. The role involves maintaining contact with customers and service providers, helping customers engage in self‑assessment, and ensuring effective service plans.

Essential Job Functions
  • Interview customers to assess ongoing service needs, gather occupational information, and explore employment opportunities and training options.
  • Coach customers to present themselves effectively as candidates and secure optimal placement in employment or further occupational information.
  • Provide career advisement, including development of individual employment/placement plans, referrals to jobs, placement in training or education programs, and retention services.
  • Conduct visits to customers’ homes, training provider sites, and/or employment sites.
  • Develop and implement service plans to meet customer needs and keep them updated as required.
  • Coordinate service provider activities.
  • Implement prescribed program related procedures and accurate case management.
  • Serve as a liaison between customers and service providers while managing a comprehensive caseload of job seekers.
  • Provide ongoing employment services.
  • Offer guidance and other assistance to help participants retain employment.
  • Accurately document customer interactions through well‑written case notes in an automated system and prepare reports as requested.
  • Address unique customer needs and barriers, creating an inclusive environment and ensuring equitable access to all individuals.
  • Utilize Extreme Customer Service behaviors in all interactions with internal and external customers.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Carrying/lifting up to 5 pounds frequently, up to 10 pounds regularly, and up to 25 pounds occasionally. Visual acuity, speech, hearing, hand and eye coordination, and manual dexterity are required for driving, operating a computer keyboard, and basic office equipment. The work is primarily in an office environment with occasional travel to other locations.

Required Competencies

Customer/client focus, learning orientation, communication proficiency, teamwork orientation, and technical capacity.

Skills/Abilities

Basic computer literacy, including the use of the internet and Microsoft Office products with mandatory keyboarding skills. Ability to work in a team environment and excellent interpersonal and customer‑service orientation. Strong oral and written communication skills. Bilingual candidates preferred.

Additional Requirements

Must have a valid driver’s license and adequate vehicle insurance coverage.
