Goodwill SWPA's Morgantown Opportunity Center seeks a Career Navigator to plan and facilitate career readiness and job placement activities, working with Human Services staff to support participants in the program. This role involves intake, assessments, workshops, and job search support with a focus on career development.

The position is Regular, Full-time, non-exempt with a Monday–Friday schedule, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, located in Morgantown, WV. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of experience required, OR Associates degree with 3 years experience, OR Bachelor’s degree with 1 year experience.
  • Experience working with at risk and/or vulnerable populations.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience working with job seekers and employers in a job placement function.
  • Prior experience with facilitating workshops and assisting adults with achieving employment goals.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate career readiness workshops during client orientation and throughout enrollment.
  • Provide job-specific training, support, and supervision to community members, including individuals with disabilities/barriers to employment.
  • Deliver quality job search, pre-employment supports, job placement and career development services.
  • Collaborate with Goodwill’s Business Engagement team and partners for labor market knowledge and opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with employers to meet client needs and coordinate resources.
  • Provide onsite customer service and maintain a welcoming environment at the Opportunity Center.
  • Follow regulatory guidelines and communicate expectations with site management.

DIVISION OVERVIEW:

Goodwill SWPA’s Human Services division is responsible for making Goodwill’s overarching vision a reality: enhancing people’s dignity and quality of life by strengthening communities and helping those with barriers to employment reach their full potential through workforce education and support. The Human Services division fulfills this mission providing high quality, outcome-oriented services for program participants by utilizing a comprehensive service delivery model covering a broad array of social programs.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:

Within the Human Services Division is the Community Services department, a subsection of the Education, Training, and Community Services branch. Community Services coordinates resources and services, both within Goodwill SWPA and through external partners, for participants across all Goodwill programs. Individuals not enrolled in Goodwill SWPA programs, but facing barriers preventing participation in their local workforce are also eligible for assistance through the Community Services department. Goodwill SWPA programming operated directly by the Community Services department include our local Opportunity Centers, Welcome Center and the Give Back Program.

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Goodwill SWPA's Opportunity Centers arefree, comprehensive, career development hubs that help job job seekers through workforce development programs focused on addressing barriers to employment. These holistic programs provide a variety of services, such as job search assistance, career counseling, and training for base level, in-demand skills. Opportunity Centers also work with Goodwill SWPA's Business Engagement Team, connecting community members to local employers for sustainable employment.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Career Navigator will plan and facilitate career readiness and job placement activities to meet our participant’s individual employment goals, setting them up for long-term career satisfaction. This position will work in collaboration with Goodwill Human Service team members to provide training and employment opportunities for participants entering and being served through our Opportunity Center program operations. The Career Navigator will provide intake, assessments, facilitate workshops, and job search support, with a focus on job coaching and career development to meet the goals of the program and program participants. This role will be pivotal in supporting community outreach efforts within their assigned Opportunity Center territory and will be expected to work a flexible schedule with varying hours Monday through Friday to meet the operational needs of employees and visitors.

External Hiring Range: $19.65 - $20.80

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM.

Travel Required: Occasional travel may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Career Readiness and Job Placement:
  • Facilitate career readiness workshops during client orientation and throughout enrollment, direct individuals to specific career readiness workshops offered by Goodwill and established community partners.
  • Provide job-specific training, support, and supervision to community members, including individuals with disabilities/barriers to employment, by ensuring that individuals’ needs are met, goals are implemented, and a safe environment is maintained.
  • Deliver quality job search, pre-employment supports, job placement and career development services through collaboration and the utilization of job readiness assessments, job search technologies and resources to identify jobs according to participant abilities, skills, and interests.
Relationship Development and Management:
  • Collaborate with Goodwill’s Business Engagement team and established community partners for up-to-date knowledge of local labor market and employer partnerships in order to identify available employment and work-based training opportunities within Goodwill and other employers as they relate to the needs and interest of job seekers and partner employers.
  • Develop relationships with employers seeking employment and work activity opportunities to meet the needs of clients in their communities and identify resources needed to support these initiatives, when applicable.
Center Support and Program Execution:
  • Provide onsite customer service and create a welcoming environment for attendants of classes, meetings and community events at the Opportunity Center.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with the Human Service division’s service areas to maintain up to date knowledge of the agency’s programs and services along with community resources across the territory.
Policy and Agency Standards:
  • Communicate production/job specific expectations to the client; meet regularly with site management to ensure communication of business needs, when applicable.
  • Be aware of and follow guidelines for all applicable regulatory entities such as Department of Human Services, Department of Labor, and WV Department of Education.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Years of Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalentAND 5 years of experience required. OR
  • Associates degree in Communications/Marketing, Business/Management, Social Services, or other related field AND 3 years of experience required. OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications/Marketing, Business/Management, Social Services, or other related field AND 1 year of experience required.
Required:

Experience working with at risk and/or vulnerable populations (familiarity with the Morgantown region, a plus).

Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills

Experience working with job seekers and employers in a job placement function.

Preferred:

Prior experience with facilitating workshops and assisting adults with achieving employment goals.

Public speaking and individual needs assessment skills, highly desired.

REQUIRED CLEARANCES, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Qualified candidates must have a valid driver's license, active insurance policy, and reliable transportation for local travel.
  • Candidates are expected to completebackground checks assigned by Goodwill SWPA, including a National Criminal Background check, prior to their first day of employment.
  • Candidates are expected to provide current, valid clearances (Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprints Clearance, and PATCH) prior to their first day of employment.
