Job summary

This position works under the general guidance and direction of the Fire Department superior officers to apply fire suppression methods to protect life and property from the hazards of fire. Performs rescue from a variety of hazardous situations and responds to releases of hazardous products to protect lives, property and the environment. Performs safety inspections, public safety education and maintenance of buildings, apparatus and equipment. Performs basic life support skills and extractions. While direction is given by superior officers, work requires initiative on the part of the firefighter and the ability to accept responsibility when no senior officer is immediately available.

2027 hiring range: $87,767.68 to $105,501.76 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

• 18 years of age
• High School Diploma of equivalent graduate certificate (GED)
• Valid MN Drivers license or equivalent state drivers license (must obtain MN within 6 months of hire) with a good driving record
• Current Firefighter II certification from the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board or equivalent certification accredited through IFSAC or NFPA Pro Board or Current State of Minnesota Firefighter License from the Minnesota Board of Fire Training and Education
• Current certification at the level of Emergency Medical Technician through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) at time of hire

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION

• Pass Psychological Exam, Medical Exam, Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), and background check.

Are you eligible for veteran's preference points? The City of Coon Rapids operates under a point preference system, which awards points to qualified veterans to supplement their application. Ten points are granted to non-disabled veterans on open competitive examinations; 15 points are awarded if the veteran has a service connected compensable disability as certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA).
