Job summary

Equus Workforce Solutions is seeking a career advisor to manage a caseload of participants, provide counseling and mentoring, and help clients achieve employment and self-sufficiency. The role emphasizes assessment of skills, job search coaching, and coordination with community resources.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of career advisement experience, strong communication skills, and prefer a Bachelor's degree in education, social services, healthcare, or communications.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of participants and provide counseling and mentoring.
  • Assess participant competencies, work history, education, skills and abilities; identify barriers to employment.
  • Conduct regular meetings with participants for job search, education, and job readiness.
  • Develop individualized employment plans and coordinate with resources and employers.
  • Maintain participant files and logs of services issued.
  • Provide case management to help customers prepare for employment and self-sufficiency.

Specific Job Functions:
  • Manages a caseload of participants and provides counseling and mentoring
  • Assesses participant competencies, work history, educational attainment, skills and abilities; identifies challenges to finding employment and prompts them to find solutions
  • Conducts regular ongoing individual meetings with participants for job search, education, job retention, and/or job readiness
  • Completes an individualized overview of available services and works with participant to create an employment plan for short- and long-term goals
  • Maintains information about area resources and employers
  • Ensures participant accountability and attendance; tracks and maintains employment retention goals
  • Provides government agencies with prompt notification that a participant has lost or reduced hours of employment
  • Maintains scheduled, periodic contact with participants in a variety of locations to assess job retention/advancement issues
  • Provides information to participants on available training and/or jobs that will lead to advancement
  • Assumes central responsibility for participants achieving self-sufficiency by monitoring progress throughout the program cycle, beginning with referral and continuing through retention and advancement efforts
  • Prepares, organizes, and maintains accurate, updated information in both electronic and paper participant files reflecting the entire history of a program participant, including a log of supportive services issued
  • Provides case management with a focus on helping customers to prepare for employment that leads to self-sufficiency
  • Facilitates customer access to training, education, and employment services, as well as job-specific information; provides case management to customers at the appropriate level
  • Ability to maintain flexibility as needs of contract or contractor require
  • A working knowledge of MS Office and Google docs
  • Two years of experience in career advisement and development, workshop facilitation, developing workforce curriculum, public speaking and content development
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and document visits and contacts
  • Demonstrated telephone, computer and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to thrive in environments with multiple stakeholders, frequent change, and diverse objectives
  • Professional understanding of a vast array of occupations and career paths, ideally including those in the healthcare field
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, social services, healthcare and/or communications
  • Customer service experience required
