Job summary

Volunteers of America–Greater New York is seeking an Economic Empowerment Specialist to support individuals with disabilities through personalized service coordination and community outreach in the Bronx, NY. The role focuses on developing tailored career access plans and connecting clients to essential resources and benefits.

You will collaborate with community partners, coordinate referrals and counseling, and document all services in line with program policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or 60 college credits and three+ years’ experience in workforce development or vocational rehabilitation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, business writing skills, the ability to work well with others, and prioritize and take initiative.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.

Responsibilities

• Develop individualized service plans with participants and provide referrals, vocational counseling, and support services to achieve goals.
• Screen for brain injury and concussion and provide psychoeducation, advocacy and support.
• Provide referrals for cognitive assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services.
• Assist participants in accessing resources including benefits and social services, focusing on SSI/SSDI and other supports.
• Provide financial counseling related to credit repair, budgeting, and money management.
• Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations, agencies, and other stakeholders to strengthen impact.
• Document all services in alignment with policies and laws.
