Job Title: Care Manager – Behavioral Health
Number of Openings: 14–20
Location: Remote (California only; must be licensed in California)
Start Date: July 7, 2025
End Date: December 31, 2025 (Possible extension, TBD)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, start time between 8:00 AM – 8:30 AM, end time between 4:40 PM – 5:00 PM
Pay Rate: $35.00 - $40.00/hour
Interview Process: Video interviews (1–2 rounds), may include screen sharing
Team Structure: Hires will be distributed across three teams servicing California contracts
Top 3 Must-Haves:
Tech-savvy; basic computer literacy
Behavioral health experience
Active California license
Top 3 Nice-to-Haves:
Crisis management
Psychiatric or utilization management experience
Experience Level: Open to all levels with active and valid licensure
Job Summary:
The Care Manager – Behavioral Health is responsible for monitoring inpatient and outpatient care related to mental health and substance use treatment. The role includes performing concurrent reviews, providing telephone triage and crisis intervention, developing discharge plans, and conducting quality clinical reviews to ensure appropriate care.
Key Responsibilities:
Review inpatient and outpatient care for medical necessity and effectiveness
Provide crisis intervention, triage, and emergency authorization as needed
Develop and manage discharge planning in coordination with providers
Educate providers and make care recommendations based on clinical findings
Provide information to members and providers regarding benefits and resources
Engage with Physician Advisors on complex clinical cases
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including data tracking and analysis
Maintain workload per Care Manager standards
Propose alternative treatment plans when medical necessity is not met
Support network development and provider recruitment as needed
Advocate for patient care and ensure treatment needs are addressed
Engage with providers in a professional and solution-oriented manner
Required Certifications (must have one of the following):
CEAP – Certified Employee Assistance Professional
LCSW – Licensed Clinical Social Worker
LMFT – Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
LMSW – Licensed Master Social Worker
LPC – Licensed Professional Counselor
RN – Registered Nurse (State or Compact State License required)
Required Education (based on certification):
Associate’s Degree in Nursing
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work
Master’s Degree in Social Work
Required Experience:
Minimum of 2 years post-degree experience in healthcare, behavioral health, psychiatric care, or substance abuse care settings
Familiarity with DSM-V (or current edition)
Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills
Knowledge of utilization management procedures and community treatment resources
