Assists patients and providers with coordinating referrals, obtaining authorizations, and scheduling. This position is responsible for understanding benefits coverage and ensuring coordinated patient care.


Essential Functions

  1. Completes referrals for patients and coordinates with referring and receiving practices and/or departments.
  2. Coordinates and prepares financial estimates for patients as needed.
  3. Obtains all necessary authorizations.
  4. Directs patients to providers within their insurance plan.
  5. Reviews insurance benefits and educates patients on coverage.
  6. Coordinates and schedules surgical procedures, diagnostic testing, or other services with internal and ancillary providers.
  7. Reviews and confirms schedules are accurate and appropriately allocated.
  8. Follows up on all referrals to prevent care gaps.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit for long periods and work in a fast-paced office environment. Ability to bend and lift up to 10 lbs is required.


Education, Experience, and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED required. Computer literacy is required. Knowledge of insurance coverage (FSC/Coverage/Plan types) and medical necessity policies is preferred. Familiarity with medical records software is a plus. Customer service experience is required.
