Job description

Residence Life is a strategic campus partner in the Involvement and Belonging area of the Office of Student Life. We house approximately 13,000 predominantly first-year students in 14 traditional residence halls and 6 unfurnished apartment communities. In addition to our traditional floors, we have 21 Living Learning Centers and Thematic Communities.

Job Summary

IU takes a student-centered, educational, and developmental approach to conduct and care responses. Our residential communities are dedicated to honesty, integrity, and high ethical standards. The Conduct Coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Conduct for Residence Life and works in high collaboration with the Office of Student Conduct to promote student success and accountability in a residential setting.
Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Conducts initial case assessment and referrals of Residence Life reports in coordination with the Assistant Director of Conduct for Residence Life. Once the case is determined to be a
  • Residence Life conduct case the Conduct coordinator will apply charges to the case and assign the case to Residence Life Hearing Officers and boards.
  • Completes case and sanction/action plan audits.
  • Serves as a resource for students and staff regarding policies and procedures contained in the IU Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct and the Residence Hall Rules and Regulations.
  • Handles incident documentation, discovery, adjudication, and sanctions/action planning.
  • Assists with training and supervision of student (RA), graduate, and professional staff and Hearing Officers.
  • Selects, trains and, advises the RHA Conduct Board.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for the residence center's conduct board advisors.
  • Works in assistance with the Assistant Director of Student Conduct for Residence Life to serve as a liaison to the Office of Student Conduct and other Dean of Students offices regarding
  • Residence Life Hearing Officer training, policy violations and sanctioning including alternative sanctioning, and mental health concerns.
  • Serves as a Hearing Officer for a variety of case levels.
General Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements programs and initiatives that offer support for students facing student conduct allegations, which may also have legal implications with local or campus police.
  • Manages an individual case load for incidents on and off campus that may affect student standing in relation to the student code of conduct, student safety and well-being, and/or university policies.
  • Collaborates with staff in own department, other departments, external entities as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student conduct goals, often coordinating sanctions and action planning efforts for individual cases.
  • Interfaces directly with students throughout the duration of the case, providing an educational and developmental experience and directing them to university resources such as staff in student support roles as appropriate.
  • Places an emphasis on confidentiality of student concerns, university policy compliance, and a culture of care within all direct student interactions.
  • Provides training to and serves as a resource for university constituents with high student interaction in order to educate on student conduct and the related procedures for case resolution.
  • Runs audits and reports trends to managers on case management progress, types of code violations, and sanction/action plan completion.
  • Performs frequent research and maintains knowledge of relevant university policies, the code of conduct, relevant laws and ordinances, and best practice procedures for handling of student conduct issues.

EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in public affairs, social work, counseling, public health, education, business, or related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
