Position Summary: Provides general observational support for assigned patient care area. Works with other members of the patient care team to deliver care to patients in various age groups including children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics based on unit population.

Job Description: Position Summary: Provides general observational support for assigned patient care area. Works with other members of the patient care team to deliver care to patients in age groups including children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics based on unit population.

Education, License & Cert: High School Grad or Equivalent preferred.

Experience: Advanced Certification or training (i.e., LPN, Crisis Training, Tech) Constant Observation or One-to-One observation experience preferred, but not necessary.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide companionship to the patient
  • Alert the RN of patient behavior which could lead to injury
  • Maintain One-to-One observation status (constant eyesight and within arm’s reach at all times) of the patient
  • Maintain Special Observation documentation form (patient’s location every 15 minutes) if determined suicide precautions/one-to-one observation
  • Provide de-escalation tactics to help control potential stressful situations
  • Communicate patient’s needs to patient care team
  • Maintain and respect the patient’s responsibility, privacy, and dignity
  • Demonstrate behavior appropriate to keeping the patient relaxed

Other Duties:

  • Participates in performance improvement activities to improve service and care
