Job description

Purpose:

The Care Attendant provides limited patient care support and observation services according to established policies and procedures. They may be directed by the nurse or physician to ensure the highest quality of patient care. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe environment, interacting with patients and families, and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, and turning/repositioning. They also assist with intake and output (I&O), weights, and are skilled in constant and psychiatric observation competencies.

Responsibilities:
  1. Patient Care and Environment: Provides observation and direct care as directed by the RN, including ADLs and maintaining a safe, clean environment. Completes safety checks, manages supplies and equipment, delivers nourishments, and reports patient status changes. Performs clerical functions as needed.
  2. Communication and Feedback: Receives feedback constructively, communicates effectively with the healthcare team, understands workplace diversity and safety, and develops professional relationships. Reports equipment issues and participates in universal patient activities.
  3. Team Participation and Safety: Supports departmental changes, takes responsibility for assignments, and demonstrates awareness of behavior impact on department functioning. Responds appropriately to emergencies and provides companionship/supervision to patients.
