Job description

Purpose:
Assist the cardiologist in performing all aspects of invasive procedures including right heart monitoring, myoendocardial biopsies, left heart catherizations, and interventional procedures.

Responsibilities:

1. Fulfill continuing education requirement as required to maintain department competencies.
2. Communicate appropriately with all members of the healthcare team.
3. Aid in the transport of patients to and from the Cath Lab to expedite timely operations of the department.
4. Prepare trays and room for procedures.
5. Enter patient information into Cath Lab computer system, monitor patient throughout the procedure, and document all parts of the procedure in the Cath Lab hemodynamic system.
6. Support information gathering for research patients.
7. Aid in orientation of all new and visiting personnel including nursing students, medical students, EMT's, and paramedics.
8. Monitor patients throughout the procedure including pre and post procedure.
9. Operate equipment appropriate for procedure (fluoro equipment, film processor and/or filmless system, defibrillator, monitoring equipment, and interventional devices).
10. Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology pertaining to cardiac patients.
11. Complete all paperwork in a timely fashion with accuracy.
12. Communicate vital patient information to physician, i.e., blood pressure, heart rhythms.
13. Prepare patient for procedure, explain procedure, and provide procedure instructions.
