Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital in Port St. Lucie is seeking a Cardiovascular Technician to perform non-invasive and invasive cardiovascular procedures, including echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, catheterization, and device implantation.

The role includes scrubbing, monitoring, pre-/post-procedure care, and collaboration with nursing and medical staff. The position requires BLS and ACLS certifications with a Cardiovascular Lab Technology program certificate or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Cardiovascular Lab Technology Program Certificate or equivalent education deemed acceptable by RCIS and RCES credentialing body
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross

Responsibilities

• Perform non-invasive and invasive cardiovascular procedures including echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, catheterization, stent insertion, balloon angioplasty and pacemaker implantation
• Scrub and monitor during procedures and handle pre-/post-procedure care and patient disposition
• Provide basic EKG interpretation and analyze ST segments for ischemia/injury and arrhythmias
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation of procedures, medications, and supplies
• Ensure patient safety, confidentiality, and collaboration with nursing and medical staff

As a Cardiovascular Technician, your responsibilities will include performing both non-invasive and invasive procedures, such as echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, cardiovascular catheterization, stent insertion, balloon angioplasty and implanting pacemakers. You will also perform scrubbing and monitoring duties during procedures as well as pre-procedure preparation, post-procedure care and patient disposition in collaboration with the nursing and medical caregivers. In this role, you will also ensure patients feel informed, relaxed and safe during each appointment. A caregiver in this position works 4 10-hour shifts, Monday-Friday, from 7:00AM – 5:30PM. Taking call is required, including weekends and holidays. Availability is required for disaster response, as needed.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide guidelines for RCVT/RCIS roles and functions in the Cath Lab.
• Assist nursing and medical caregivers in providing care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.
• Perform scrubbing and monitoring duties during procedures.
• Perform pre-procedure preparation, post-procedure care and patient disposition in collaboration with nursing and medical staff.
• Perform basic EKG interpretation, single and 12-lead ST segments analysis for ischemia/injury patterns and recognition of arrhythmias.
• Recognize and interpret EKG changes related to all electrophysiology procedures, such as mapping, ablating and implanting of cardiac resynchronization devices.
• Perform arterial and venous pressure monitoring, sampling and basic interpretation.
• Perform three-dimensional mapping systems and the principles of cardiac resynchronization therapy.
• Document procedures completely and accurately including medications and supplies.
• Perform patient observation.
• Assist team members in acute cardiac care, including resuscitation and related therapeutic effects.
• Set up scrub procedures in the Cath lab.
• Prepare all instruments/equipment for decontamination following universal precautions and take them to the sterilization department.
• Restock procedure room when cases are completed for the day.
• Check daily paper of the computer, paper calibration and basic troubleshooting practices of recording equipment.
• Report malfunctioning equipment immediately to Nurse Manager.
• Always maintain patient, medical record, department and employee confidentiality.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Cardiovascular Lab Technology Program Certificate or equivalent education deemed acceptable by RCIS and RCES credentialing body
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Certified or Registered Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT)
• Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology experience
• Neuro experience

Physical Requirements:

• Workload is heavy and requires constant lifting, moving of patients, equipment, instrument trays, and supplies.
• Able to lift items up to 50 pounds without assistance and greater than 50 pounds with assistance.
• Stooping, pushing and pulling required when moving patients or equipment into position for surgery.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
