Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Hospital-approved program in cardiology technology, or related college coursework.
• Completion of one year (or more) of experience administering stress tests or prior EKG experience.
• Knowledge of proper 12-lead ECG lead placement and skin preparation techniques.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for stress testing procedures, including treadmill tests and isotope studies; monitors blood pressure and ECG status.
• Uses electrocardiographic recorders to produce technically accurate, artifact-free tracings.
• Verifies that consent forms are signed prior to tests.
• Obtains accurate patient histories and documents findings for physician review.
• Instructs patients on post-procedure activities regarding diet, exercise and shower restrictions.
• Sets up 24-hour ambulatory ECG recorders and instructs patients in their use.
• Follows department policies regarding crash cart operations and daily defibrillator checks.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent

Cardiology technology program completion / related coursework

One year of prior stress tests or EKG experience
