Job summary

UNC Health’s Echo Cardiology Department is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer to perform high quality transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms, Definity contrast, saline bubble studies, and stress echo. The role involves interpretation prep for Cardiologist review in a heart and vascular hospital setting with multiple ICUs; pediatrics experience is a plus.

The position is per diem with weekend work, onsite in Raleigh, NC.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Sonography, Radiology or related field.
• Completion of a 12-month ultrasound program within 3 months of hire.
• Registered by ARDMS or CCI; registry within 1 year preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver pre‑ and post‑procedure patient care including assessment and emergency cardiac care.
• Ensure equipment calibration and maintenance; record QA and troubleshoot issues.
• Generate ultrasound images of the heart and vascular structures.
• May provide staff training and education.
• Maintain patient data and reports; manage data storage and charge entry.

Echo Cardiology Department: Cardiac Sonographer

Echo Cardiology department seeks a Cardiac Sonographer to perform high quality studies. Studies to include transthoracic echo, transesophageal, Definity contrast, saline bubble study, and stress echo. Analysis and evaluation of all studies prepared by Sonographer will be a preliminary report sent to interpreting Cardiologist. We are a heart and vascular hospital with 5 ICUs, including a Newborn ICU; proficiency in pediatrics is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates competence in delivering pre‑procedure and post‑procedure patient care including, but not limited to patient assessment, periprocedural care, and emergency cardiac care (CPR is required). Assistance with post‑procedure transport may be required.
• Ensures equipment is calibrated and properly maintained on a daily basis. Performs and records all equipment maintenance and quality assurance monitoring. Troubleshoots and identifies any equipment problems and reports to appropriate supervisor.
• Generates ultrasound images of the heart and/or vascular related structures.
• May perform staff training and education.
• Monitors and records patient information and maintains report storage and data systems. Compiles and enters data necessary for charge entry and prepares reports. Also responsible for retrieval of stored information and reports from the automated storage system.
• Prepares procedure room and equipment for daily use and is responsible for timely and efficient room preparation between procedures.

Education Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Sonography, Radiology or a related field within 3 months of hire, OR
• Completion of a twelve (12) month ultrasound program within 3 months of hire.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or registry‑eligible and become registered within one (1) year from date of hire. Must maintain registry status and continuing education requirements annually. RDCS or RCS‑ Preferred.
