Job summary

Inova Alexandria is seeking a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist 2 to join the Cath Lab team. This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week, with responsibilities across a range of diagnostic and interventional procedures.

The ideal candidate will hold ARDMS and RCIS or RTR CV certification, or have 5+ years of Interventional Radiology experience with RTR, and at least one year of post-registry hospital experience in cardiac/vascular sonography. Inova supports education and career growth.

Qualifications

• Certification: ARDMS and RCIS or RTR CV required; or 5 years Interventional Radiology experience with RTR.
• One year of experience post-registry in hospital/healthcare cardiac/vascular sonography.
• Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program or nursing graduate option.

Responsibilities

• Assists physician in performing exams using standard protocols and sterile technique.
• Recognizes clinical or emergent problems and acts to resolve them while ensuring high-quality results.
• Demonstrates proper IV contrast injection technique and ensures supplies are stocked.
• Identifies patients and orders accurately; maintains credential status via continuing education.
• Supports patient safety and aseptic cleaning of equipment per department policies.

Job Responsibilities:

Assists the physician in performing a variety of examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile techniques as evidenced by Radiologist's satisfaction.

Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and takes appropriate action to resolve them while producing the most desirable outcome, as evidence by exam results and patient satisfaction. Communicates effectively with ordering and/or interpreting physicians to ensure appropriate use.

Demonstrates proper technique for injection of IV contrast, or other test-enhancing solution, under the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Standards. Ensures rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and has required supplies readily available for procedures.

Correctly identifies patients and appropriate orders, ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mismatched studies. Maintains active credential status by complying with continual education requirements. Attends at least 50 percent of QA conferences.

Demonstrates patient safety in department by use of side rails, braking mechanisms and patient monitoring as demonstrated by risk management. Reports, documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual conditions, as evidenced by documentation in the tracking system. Demonstrates proper care and aseptic cleaning of all patient related equipment following established department policies to ensure the quality of care provided to patients.

Additional Requirements:

Licensure - None required

Certification - Basic Life Support from AHA upon start; American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS); Registered in one of the following: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), Radiologic Technologist Vascular Interventional Radiology (RTR VI), Radiologic Technologist Cardiovascular (RTR CV) or Radiologic Technologist Cardiovascular Interventional (RTR CI) required. Unless at least 5 years of Interventional Radiology Tech experience with active RTR registry, OR a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Experience - One year of experience after acquiring registry in a hospital/healthcare environment in the performance of cardiac or vascular sonography.
