The Dell Medical School in conjunction with Ascension Texas, isseeking an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant to bepartof the Institute for Cardiovascular Health. This individualwill work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to servethe growing need of the regional adult population to deliver worldclass adult cardiovascular and thoracic surgical care.

Purpose

In collaboration with supervising physicians, provides for theexpansion of individualized healthcare services by diagnosing andtreating adult cardiovascular and thoracic conditions. The AdvancedPractice Professional (APP) will primarily staff the ICU but willalso cross cover the telemetry ward providing patient-centered,competent, compassionate, and professional care in both out-patientand in-patient settings.

Responsibilities
  • Operating Room based Physician Assistants will primarily workassisting in the cardiovascular operating room. Obtains patienthistory and performs assessment via observation, interview andexamination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies.Performs health assessments, screening, and patient care.
  • Provides direct treatment and management of conditions viaprescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers orcommunity resources. Counsels and educates patients and theirfamilies/caregivers concerning health conditions, treatment optionsand community resources.
  • Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes inaccordance with specific specialty area standards and networknursing policy.
  • Participates in orientation and education of staff andstudents.
  • Other related functions as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Physician's Assistant credentialed from the Texas Medical Boardor Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board ofNursing.
  • Licensed Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner with PrescriptiveAuthority specializing in Cardiac Critical Care.
  • Credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing in Acute Carenursing.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted asappropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Cardiovascular and thoracic experience preferred.
  • Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-pacedenvironment with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to address individuals and information with a highdegree of sensitivity and confidentiality in varioussituations.
  • Capacity to work well with physicians and other care providersas part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare delivery team.
Salary Range

$125,000+ depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement Systemof Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours perweek and at least 135 days in length. This position has the optionto elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS,subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135days in length.
