Job summary

TheraEX Staffing Services is seeking a Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant for a locum tenens assignment in Santa Monica, CA. The PA will provide comprehensive surgical and inpatient support across the OR, ICU/step-down, and clinic within a high‑acuity cardiac program.

This role requires advanced procedural competency, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to independently manage complex cardiac patients while collaborating with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• California Physician Assistant license and DEA required.
• 3–5 years of Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery experience preferred.
• Proficiency in radial and endoscopic vein harvesting.
• Experience with ECMO, IABP, and Impella in postoperative care.

Responsibilities

• OR First Assist for cardiothoracic and cardiovascular procedures.
• ICU and step-down management with postoperative care.
• Daily rounding on pre- and post-operative patients.
• Clinic duties for evaluations, follow-ups, and optimization.
• Interpretation of diagnostics (EKG, X-ray, labs).
• Manage advanced cardiac support devices (ECMO, IABP, Impella).
• Call coverage in a 1:2 rotation with another PA.
