Job summary

Wellstar Health Systems in Georgia is seeking a Cath Lab Tech for the Kennestone campus. You will perform cardiovascular cath/EP procedures, may scrub, monitor, or circulate, and collaborate with interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists.

The role requires adaptability, completion of procedures with sterile technique, patient education using AIDET and proper script, and maintaining licenses and ACLS/BLS certifications. On-call and varied hours are expected.

Qualifications

  • Completion of cardiovascular cath and/or EP competencies.
  • May function in monitoring, scrubbing, or circulating roles.
  • Able to use critical thinking skills.
  • Work in conjunction with interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and cardiologists.
  • Preps and educates the patient for procedure.
  • Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.

Responsibilities

  • Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs.
  • Able to work scheduled and cath lab On-Call hours.
  • Knows existing lines of communication and authority.
  • Handles communications properly.
  • Introduces self to patient and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting ie. AIDET.
  • Transports patients as needed.
  • Provides privacy and comfort for patient/customers.
  • Assists with maintenance of departmental records, Joint Commission standards, State and Federal Regulations and performance Improvement.
  • Enters data in to cath lab log and verifies accuracy and completeness.
  • Completes necessary paperwork.
  • Answers departmental phone using proper scripting.
  • Maintains stock levels and outdates.
  • Maintain current License and BLS/ACLS certifications.
  • Works as a team with other cath_EP lab staff to obtain the best possible outcome.
  • Performs any other duties as needed when asks by leadership.
  • Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedure.
  • Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedure.
  • Responsible for patient, family/support system education.
  • Responsible for patient education as it relates to their procedure, including preparing the patient for future procedures and/or transfer to another facility.
  • Provide post procedural home care instructions as needed.

Call is Required: 1 Night/week + 1 Weekend per month

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Clinical Skills
  • Completion of cardiovascular cath and/or EP competencies

Quality and Patient Safety
  • Verifies patient ID using 2 patient identifiers, i.e.. Armband, DOB, verbal identification
  • Verifies front of patient chart for same/similar name sticker
  • Verifies Written Order and Consent, seeks clarification if order or consent unclear
  • Uses and understands preprocedural verification/ time out form
  • Understands and complies with site/ side marking when indicated

Required Minimum Education:Associate's Degree in Health Science or Related Field Required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.

One year of cardiovascular cath/EP lab experience may be substituted in lieu of formal education or of CVT program with RCIS and/or ARRT-CV Preferred

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
  • All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • Registered CVI Specialist-Preferred
  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ACLS - Instructor or ACLS - Provisional
Additional License(s) and Certification(s)
Required Minimum Experience
  • Minimum 1 year functioning independently in cardiovascular cath/electrophysiology lab may be substituted in lieu of formal education.
  • 2 Years of Healthcare experience strongly preferred.
