Job summary

Allina Health in Saint Paul, MN is recruiting a Cardiovascular Care Technician to join the CV care team. The role involves patient rooming, documenting medical history and medications, and assisting with cardiovascular testing in a clinic setting.

You will work an 8-hour day shift with no weekend requirements, and participate in the continuum of cardiovascular care with physicians and nurses. BLS certification is required, CMA preferred, with opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• 2-year or 4-year healthcare degree, CMA, or equivalent externship completion.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
• Allina in-house BLS training within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Completes patient rooming and prepares the patient for visit.
• Rooms patients and documents chief complaints and medications.
• Documents medication lists and allergies; communicates with physicians about patient visits.
• Gathers and reviews patient information and coordinates cardiovascular care with team.
• Performs 12-lead EKG testing and basic cardiac testing procedures as ordered.
• Maintains clinic environment and ensures equipment and supplies are stocked.

Job Description: As part of the CV care team, the Cardiovascular Care Technician participates with the physician, advanced practice providers, and nurses in delivering timely, quality care and services to patients in the cardiovascular clinic setting.

Principle Responsibilities

• Completes patient rooming.
• Rooms patients, gathering all necessary information from the patient and documents in record.
• Documents the chief complaint/reason for visit.
• Accurately and thoroughly reviews patient’s current medication and updates medication list.
• Ensures all allergies are documented.
• Communicates with physician about the patient reason for visit and any concerns.
• Facilitates and participates in the continuum of patient cardiovascular care in partnership with physicians and nurses.
• Provides instructions to patients regarding diagnostic testing and/or lifestyle modification instructions and coaching to patients.
• Assists with program development and initiatives.
• Educates/instructs patient and families on cardiovascular related issues, including exercise prescriptions, healthy lifestyle habits, and preventative care indulging age specific and cultural considerations.
• Completes visit preparation – obtaining necessary documentation, records prior to the patient’s visit.
• Works collaboratively with outside organizations to obtain patient records.
• Scans records following HIM processes and protocols.

Cardiac Diagnostic Testing

• Possesses basic understanding of cardiac diagnostic testing and procedures.
• Able to differentiate between stress tests; able to provide basic to advanced information and instructions to patients.
• Explains diagnostic test to patient and provides instructions as needed.
• Performs 12-lead EKG testing as requested or ordered.
• Places leads on patient.
• Troubleshoots equipment problems.
• Identifies and instructed with age specific and cultural considerations.
• Obtains MD signature.
• Documents charges.
• Maintains clinic environment.
• Checks crash cart daily & complete log sheet making sure that equipment is operational, lock secure & out dates are within spec.
• Checks blood glucose monitor daily.
• Ensures all clinical areas are stocked with necessary supplies.
• Checks equipment to ensure working order.
• Ensures all areas of the clinic are properly cleaned at the end of the day or as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• 2 year degree or 4 year degree in healthcare or other related field OR Certified Medical Assistant OR Non-Certified Applicants with less than six (6) months of Medical Assistant experience must have graduated from an accredited school with a clinical externship

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal training as EMT, Cardiology Technician, EKG Tech, etc.
• Bachelor's degree exercise physiology or related field
• 6 months in direct patient care in a cardiovascular setting

Licenses/Certifications

• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
• Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants preferred

Physical Demands: Medium Work*: Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range Pay Range: $22.04 to $30.01 per hour The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
