Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Cardiothoracic Surgery team, with duties across inpatient care and multidisciplinary coordination. This full-time position offers a high-acuity surgical setting and hospital-based medical care.

Responsibilities include critical care in the CT ICU, intraoperative assistance, bedside procedures, and leading care coordination. Strong ICU skills and NCCPA certification are required; CT Surgery experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited PA program with NCCPA certification.
• Active state PA license and prescriptive authority.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a surgical or hospital-based acute care setting (CT Surgery preferred).
• Skilled in ICU management and invasive bedside procedures.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical-surgical care.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to critically ill patients in the Cardiothoracic ICU, including ECMO/Impella/IABP/CRRT.
• Serve as first/second assist in cardiothoracic surgeries (vein/arterial harvesting).
• Perform bedside procedures (thoracentesis, line placements, chest tube).
• Manage preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative care and discharge planning.
• Lead daily rounds, write progress notes, coordinate care.
• Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, anesthesiologists, and teams to ensure high-quality outcomes.
