Job summary

Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, NM, seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to assist physicians during cardiac surgeries and to perform post-op rounds and patient care.

The role includes completing pre- and post-operative orders, managing patient care, and coordinating discharge planning within a comprehensive care environment.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Nursing is required.
• New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license is required.
• Federal and state DEA license and ANCC certification are required for NP.
• For Physician Assistant: CAHEA Certified Physician Assistant and NM Board of Medical Examiners license required.

Responsibilities

• Sees post-op patients in IRR, writes progress notes and transfers orders as needed.
• Enters orders in PEO.
• Assists in prepping, draping, and readying patient for surgical procedure.
• Serves as Floor APC to start patient rounds on cardiac units.
• Removes pacer wires and chest tubes as needed.
• Prepares post-op patient for discharge including prescriptions and teaching.
• Dictates discharge summaries and checks labs and CXR for in-house patients.
• Responsible for seeing post-op patients in office and pre-op patients to complete orders and labs.
• Acts as on-call APC to coordinate with on-call surgeon.

Summary

Job Description

• And enters orders in PEO.
• APC in operating room assists in having patient prepped, draped, and ready for surgical procedure.
• Serves as Floor APC to start patient rounds on cardiac units.
• Removes pacer wires and chest tubes as needed.
• Prepares post op patient for discharge (prescriptions, coumadin, teaching, post-surgical teaching) and dictates discharge summaries.
• Checks all outstanding labs and CXR on in house patients.
• Responsible for seeing post op patients in office.
• Responsible for seeing pre op patients in office and ensuring H & Ps, data sheets, pre-op orders & labs completed.
• Serves as on-call APC to check out with on-call surgeon at end of day.
• Checks pre-op patient labs & x-rays.
• Serves as Weekend call APC to meet with on-call surgeon.
• Performs other functions as required.

Additional Job Description

For Nurse Practitioner - Masters degree in Nursing, New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license, federal and state DEA license and ANCC certification required.

For Physician Assistant - Baccalaureate prepared CAHEA Certified Physician Assistant or two (2) years working experience as a Certified Physician Assistant, and licensed by the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners required.
