Position Title: Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician

Hours: Full-time

Job Duties:

• Evaluates and treats patients with cardiac and thoracic surgical conditions.
• Performs cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures.
• Accepts cardiac and thoracic referrals from other physicians or providers.
• Requests referrals of other physicians for care outside the scope of cardiothoracic diseases, i.e. cardiology, vascular surgery, pulmonology, nephrology, gastrointestinal, neurology, etc.
• Responds to patient care emergencies providing appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic medical, surgical and procedural interventions.
• Shares night and weekend call responsibilities.
• Readily available when on call for all urgent cardiac and thoracic situations.
• Sees patient in both the hospital and office/outpatient setting providing initial evaluation, consultation, and follow-up of patients.
• Mentors junior colleagues.
• Teaches residents, medical students, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and allied health professionals.

Required Minimum Position Qualifications:

• Doctorate in Medicine, Osteopathy, or foreign equivalent Applicant must also have:
• Must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in Iowa.
• Successful completion of fellowship in Thoracic Surgery.
• BE/BC (Board Eligible/Board Certified) in Internal Medicine.
