Job summary

Piedmont Heart Institute in Augusta, GA is seeking a BC/BE Thoracic Surgeon to join our high-volume cardiovascular program. The candidate will perform comprehensive thoracic procedures and provide both surgical and non-surgical patient care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Ideal candidates will have completed a Cardiothoracic Fellowship and be board certified in Thoracic Surgery, with expertise in cardiac CT and Cardiac MR imaging.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited medical school.
• Completion of Cardiothoracic Fellowship and Board Certification in Thoracic Surgery.
• Expertise in Cardiac CT and Cardiac MR imaging.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and perform thoracic surgery for congenital and acquired heart and great vessel conditions.
• Provide non-surgical care and perioperative management.
• Coordinate with hospitalists and cardiology colleagues to improve quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction.
• Maintain admitting privileges and manage critical care patient care as required.

We are looking for a team member to support a high volume, complex, patient care program that will provide excellent service with outcome-driven robust cardiovascular options.

Ideal candidate will be able to perform all the following surgeries including, but not limited to:

• Cardiothoracic Surgeon role and responsibility will be the following:
• Evaluation, diagnosis, treatment/surgery and consultation for patients with congenital and acquired abnormalities of the heart and great vessels, lungs, mediastinum, and pleura; a variety of conditions of the chest wall; and traumatic injuries to the chest and cardiothoracic structures.
• Non-surgical care as well as pre-, intra-, and post-operative surgical care.
• Admitting privileges to the facility and support provisions of care for patients in critical care/intensive care settings in accordance with Piedmont Augusta policies and procedures.
• Assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of patients with emergent conditions in accordance with medical staff policy.
• Management of chronic cardiovascular diseases including ordering appropriate imaging or lab tests and recommending treatment plans, including surgical interventions, as indicated by patient's clinical needs.
• Coordination of care with hospitalists, primary care physicians, cardiology colleagues and other specialty physicians regarding day-to-day operations and participates in meetings for risk and quality management as well as improving clinical quality, efficiency, and patient satisfaction.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of medicine
• Completion of Cardiothoracic Fellowship and MUST BE Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery
• Expertise needed in Cardiac CT and Cardiac MR (MRAs)
