Job summary

Piedmont Augusta in Augusta, Georgia seeks a BC/BE Thoracic Surgeon to join the Piedmont Heart Institute. You will evaluate and treat patients with complex heart and great vessel diseases and perform cardiothoracic procedures.

The role requires fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery, board certification, and US work eligibility. Expertise in Cardiac CT and Cardiac MR is preferred. Visa sponsorship options (H‑1B/J‑1 waivers) may be available.

Qualifications

• Completion of a cardiothoracic fellowship and board certification in thoracic surgery.
• Expertise in Cardiac CT and Cardiac MR (MRAs).
• Authorized to work in the United States; eligibility for H‑1B visa sponsorship and J‑1 visa waivers.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and surgically treat congenital and acquired heart and great vessel conditions.
• Provide non-surgical care and perioperative management.
• Hold admitting privileges and support ICU patient care.
• Assess and stabilize emergent cardiothoracic cases per policy.
• Manage chronic cardiovascular diseases and plan treatment incl. surgical interventions.
• Coordinate care with hospitalists, PCPs, cardiology colleagues and other specialists; participate in risk/quality meetings.

Position

BC/BE Thoracic Surgeon – Piedmont Augusta (Piedmont Heart Institute)

Responsibilities

• Evaluation, diagnosis, treatment/surgery and consultation for patients with congenital and acquired abnormalities of the heart and great vessels, lungs, mediastinum, and pleura; a variety of conditions of the chest wall; and traumatic injuries to the chest and cardiothoracic structures.
• Provide non‑surgical care as well as pre‑, intra‑, and post‑operative surgical care.
• Hold admitting privileges and support patient care in critical care/intensive care settings per Piedmont Augusta policies and procedures.
• Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions in accordance with medical staff policy.
• Manage chronic cardiovascular diseases, including ordering appropriate imaging or laboratory tests and recommending treatment plans, including surgical interventions, as indicated by patients’ clinical needs.
• Coordinate care with hospitalists, primary care physicians, cardiology colleagues, and other specialty physicians regarding day‑to‑day operations; participate in meetings for risk and quality management and in efforts to improve clinical quality, efficiency, and patient satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of medicine.
• Completion of a cardiothoracic fellowship and board certification in thoracic surgery.
• Expertise in Cardiac CT and Cardiac MR (MRAs).
