Job description

Cardiothoracic Organ Procurement Surgeon | Baylor Scott & White | Downtown Dallas

Baylor Scott & White has just opened a Procurement position to join an established practice at our flagship hospital in Downtown Dallas.

The Department of Cardiac Surgery, Baylor Scott and White Health in Dallas, Texas, an affiliate of Texas A & M College of Medicine, is currently seeking an Organ Procurement Surgeon to be an integral part of the heart and lung transplant teams. The heart transplant program at BSHW Dallas is the largest in the state of Texas and consistently ranks as a top 10 program in the country for volume. An acceptable candidate will be a key member of the care management team, responsible for the procurement of heart, lung, and heart/lung allografts. The candidate must have the skill to assess the organs on site and communicate findings and concerns with the implanting surgeon, having complete knowledge of the responsibilities and nuances of thoracic organ procurement as per OPTN guidelines. The individual will have the responsibility of promoting teamwork and excellent communication with the members of the transplant and procurement teams and exhibit strong verbal and written communication, organizational, problem-solving skills. Depending upon qualifications, the surgeon may also serve in the capacity as assistant surgeon for transplant procedures as well as other cardiothoracic surgeries. In addition to the responsibilities with the transplant team, the individual will have an active role in the ECMO program, which will involve assessment of patients, cannulation on and off-site, as well as management along with the multidisciplinary team.

Requirements of the position:

  • Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Pathway preferred
  • BC/BE by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or thoracic surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
  • Experience in cardiothoracic procurement preferred but not required
  • Guaranteed competitive salary with an assigned mentor within the Baylor network
  • Employed, Full-time, position with Health Texas Provider Network (HTPN) - the employment arm of Baylor Scott & White
