Job summary

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) for its Cardiothoracic Surgery team in North Carolina. The role involves patient evaluations in surgical settings and collaboration with attending surgeons, APPs, and staff.

Rotating weekend and night coverage is required. The position offers opportunities for educational and scholarly activity, plus a supportive, autonomous, team-oriented environment dedicated to exceptional patient

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License, NCCPA certification.
  • APP post-graduate experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery preferred.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • Graduation from accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program; Master’s degree or higher.
  • Current NC Board of Nursing RN and NP licenses.
  • Board certified as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by AANP or ANCC.
  • First Assist Certification required.

In this surgical role within an academic practice, you'll collaborate with attending surgeons, surgery APPs, and staff, with opportunities for educational and scholarly activities. What You'll Do:

As a valued member of our Operating Room team, the PA/ACNP will play a key role in team-focused patient care, conducting thorough examinations and evaluations in surgical settings.


Rotating Weekend and Night coverage required.



  • Using medical decision-making skills to determine appropriate patient care plan.

  • Collaborates with medical team when needed for effective team-based care.

  • Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures.

  • Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.

  • Procedural skills per department or practice guidelines.

  • Opportunity to participate in basic science and clinical research projects

  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.


The clinician functions under the regulatory mandate from their respective licensing organization (North Carolina Medical Board or North Carolina Board of Nursing) with departmental specific credentialing from the institution.


Physician Assistant (PA) Requirements:


  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master's Degree preferred

  • Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License, Certified by NCCPA

  • APP post-graduate experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery preferred

  • Experience with vein harvesting preferred

  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required


Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) Requirements:


  • Graduation from accredited Nurse Practitioner Master's Program, Master's degree or higher required

  • Current North Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license

  • Board certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practice by AANP or ANCC

  • First Assist Certification required

  • APP post-graduate experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery preferred

  • Experience with vein harvesting preferred

  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required
