The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking a skilled and motivated Nurse Practitioner to join the Cardiothoracic team at our main hospital campus in Burlington, VT. This is a 1.0 FTE exempt primarily weekday position with rotating weekend coverage.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform daily rounds on post-op and step-down cardiothoracic surgical patients
Conduct comprehensive histories and physical examinations
Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests and lab results
Assist in perioperative management, including chest tube care, wound management, and hemodynamic monitoring
Formulate and implement care plans in collaboration with attending physicians
Facilitate patient transitions of care, including discharge planning and summaries
Communicate with patients and families regarding clinical status, treatments, and expectations
Participate in multidisciplinary care team meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety programs
Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff and other allied health professionals
Participate in education of students, residents, or new staff as appropriate
Completion of a master's, post-master's, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or an equivalent body is required.
AGACNP Certification preferred.
Three years cardiovascular or adjacent nurse practitioner experience preferred; minimum one year experience required.
Newer NP graduates with post-surgical RN experience may be considered.
