Job description

The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking a skilled and motivated Nurse Practitioner to join the Cardiothoracic team at our main hospital campus in Burlington, VT. This is a 1.0 FTE exempt primarily weekday position with rotating weekend coverage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily rounds on post-op and step-down cardiothoracic surgical patients

  • Conduct comprehensive histories and physical examinations

  • Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests and lab results

  • Assist in perioperative management, including chest tube care, wound management, and hemodynamic monitoring

  • Formulate and implement care plans in collaboration with attending physicians

  • Facilitate patient transitions of care, including discharge planning and summaries

  • Communicate with patients and families regarding clinical status, treatments, and expectations

  • Participate in multidisciplinary care team meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety programs

  • Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff and other allied health professionals

  • Participate in education of students, residents, or new staff as appropriate

Education
  • Completion of a master's, post-master's, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

  • Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or an equivalent body is required.

  • AGACNP Certification preferred.

Experience
  • Three years cardiovascular or adjacent nurse practitioner experience preferred; minimum one year experience required.

  • Newer NP graduates with post-surgical RN experience may be considered.
