Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Cardiology Technician to support the Cardiac Lab and Cardiovascular Procedure areas. Under supervision, you will perform patient care tasks, assist with prep and post-care, and help with equipment and room readiness.

Responsibilities include ECG readings, sheath pulls under RN guidance, vital signs, and timely response to call lights. The role requires high school/GED, BLS certification, and preferred CNA or phlebotomy experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • BLS (AHA) certification required.
  • CNA and Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in transporting patients to nursing units.
  • Assist with patient preps (pre and post exam).
  • Complete electrocardiograph readings on patients as requested.
  • Maintain equipment and restock supplies.
  • Assist in sheath pulls under RN direction as needed.
  • Prepare Cardiac Procedure rooms with adequate stock.
  • Obtain vital signs per unit standards and report abnormalities to RN.
  • Answer call lights promptly.
  • Assist in patient recovery post-procedure and ensure comfort.
  • Take call on assigned weekends and Holidays.

Position Summary / Career Interest:

Under the direction of a supervising nurse or other team member, the Cardiology Technician performs patient care functions for patients undergoing procedures in the Cardiac Lab and/or Cardiovascular Procedure areas. These functions may include sheath pulls, ECGs, prepping patients for procedure and providing avariety of specialized duties in the Cardiac Procedural Areas.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Assist in transporting patients to nursing units.
  • Assists with patient preps (pre and post exam).
  • Completes electrocardiograph readings on patients as requested.
  • Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of equipment and restocks supplies.
  • Performs sheath pulls under the direction of RN, as needed per department.
  • Prepares Cardiac Procedure rooms by ensuring adequate stock is available.
  • Obtains Vital Signs per unit standards and reports abnormal values to RN immediately
  • Assists in answering call lights in a timely manner
  • Assists in settling the patient upon return to their room post procedure (hooking patient back up to vital signs, making sure call light is within reach, water and menu are in patient room)
  • Takes call on their assigned weekends and Holidays
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate or GED

Required Licensure and Certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred Licensure and Certification
  • Certified Nurse Aide / Assistant (CNA) - State Department for Aging and Disability Services (KS), Department of Health & Senior Services (MO) - Includes licenses for all other states
