Qualifications

• High school diploma required; completion of medical terminology and ICD-9-CM coding classes.
• Minimum of two years ICD-9-CM coding experience; healthcare billing and follow-up preferred.
• Ability to interact well with physicians, physician offices, business office personnel, etc. to obtain information needed to assign codes and communicate with payers and patients.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and accurately code hospital charge sheets daily.
• Input charges and verify data accuracy.
• File electronic claims and review insurance reports each morning.
• Call insurances to follow up on payment status or appeals due to denials or incorrect payments.
• Call patients for insurance information and arrange payment plans if needed.
• Respond promptly to inquiries from payers and patients.
• Interact with patients, employees, physicians and other community members; manage workload and deadlines.
