Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant for the Cardiology area. The role supports efficient patient flow, prepares patients for visits, and assists physicians and nurses with procedures within a busy clinical setting.

Responsibilities include documenting vitals, scheduling tests, managing medical records, and performing routine clerical tasks. A Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience is required with BLS certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or at least one year as a Medical Assistant or CCMA or NCRMA certification.

Responsibilities

• Schedules tests, obtains films/reports, and prepares laboratory specimens.
• Assists physicians and/or nurses with procedures and examinations as defined on competency checklist.
• Coordinates care with health care team and may record patient history elements.
• Electronically submits prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
• Ensures data collected for completed procedures is recorded in medical records.
• Maintains medical records including documentation and filing.
• Maintains examination rooms: stock supplies and logs (refrigerator, eyewash, crash carts) and equipment checks.
• Performs clerical duties: greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification, insurance forms, billing.
• Performs simple procedures as directed by nurse or physician and per competency checklist.
• Performs vital signs and basic measurements and records in medical chart.
