Job summary

Salem Health is seeking a Cardiology Hospitalist to join our growing cardiology program at Salem Health Hospitals and Clinics, a Level II Trauma facility. You will provide inpatient cardiovascular care, lead medical management of inpatients, and collaborate with a broad team of providers across EP, imaging, anesthesia, and hospital services.

The role emphasizes comprehensive patient care, injury prevention, and care coordination across transitions from hospital to outpatient settings.

Qualifications

• Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in Oregon.
• DEA certificate with Oregon address by start date.
• ACLS certification (AHA) required.
• Completed ACGME/AOA accredited Cardiology fellowship.
• Board Certification: IM and Cardiovascular Medicine or eligible within 5 years; echocardiography or nuclear cardiology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient cardiovascular care for hospitalized patients.
• Lead day-to-day medical management of inpatients in cardiology.
• Respond to urgent cardiovascular issues with evidence-based plans.
• Collaborate with cardiology team and hospitalists for coordinated care.
• Coordinate transitions of care and follow-up with outpatient providers.
• Interpret ECGs, imaging, labs, and telemetry to guide treatment.

Cardiology Clinic

Our Cardiology Clinic is a collaborative team that includes a dedicated EP physician assistant, a fully functioning device clinic, and two EP labs featuring the Abbott EnSite mapping system. The role offers variety and balance with time in the EP lab performing procedures, time in clinic seeing patients, and inpatient rounding after cases. Our program supports a broad range of services including pacemakers, defibrillators, heart failure devices, Watchman, ablation (including complex and SVT ablation), and device management.

What you'll do

• Provide inpatient cardiovascular care for hospitalized patients at Salem Health, evaluating and managing acute and chronic cardiac conditions to improve patient outcomes, reduce complications, and ensure timely treatment during hospitalization.
• Lead the day-to-day medical management of cardiology inpatients, conducting comprehensive assessments, reviewing diagnostic data, and developing evidence-based treatment plans to support recovery and clinical stability.
• Respond to urgent cardiovascular issues and clinical changes, using advanced clinical judgment, diagnostic testing, and established care pathways to deliver prompt, high-quality care in the hospital setting.
• Collaborate closely with general cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiac surgeons, hospitalists, and advanced practice providers, ensuring coordinated, patient-centered care across the continuum of hospitalization.
• Partner with nursing teams, case managers, pharmacists, rehabilitation specialists, and other multidisciplinary staff to optimize treatment plans, facilitate safe transitions of care, and support efficient patient throughput.
• Interpret and integrate cardiac diagnostics, including ECGs, cardiac imaging, laboratory results, telemetry monitoring, and other clinical data, to guide treatment decisions and monitor patient progress.
• Communicate regularly with patients and their families, educating them about diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge recommendations to promote understanding, engagement, and long-term cardiovascular health.
• Support seamless transitions from inpatient to outpatient care, coordinating follow-up with Salem Health cardiology providers and community resources to reduce readmissions and improve continuity of care.
• Practice primarily within Salem Health's hospital environment, including inpatient units, cardiac care areas, and consult services, serving as a dedicated cardiovascular specialist focused on hospitalized patients.
• Contribute to quality improvement, clinical excellence, and system-wide cardiovascular initiatives, working with Salem Health physician and leadership teams to enhance patient experience, safety, and outcomes across the organization.

Required qualifications

• Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Oregon.
• Current valid, unrestricted DEA certification with and Oregon address by commencement of employment.
• Maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) ACLA certification.
• Successfully completed an ACGME or AOA accredited fellowship training program in Cardiology.
• Board Certifications:
  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA);
  • Board certification in Cardiovascular Medicine, or board admissible and certification must be achieved within 5 years from completion of the applicable Residency and/or Fellowship program for the privileges being requested.
  • Board Certification in echocardiography or additional certification in nuclear cardiology preferable.
