Job summary

Overland Park Regional Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a Cardiac Unit Secretary. The role supports nursing staff with daily clerical tasks, stock management, and patient communication.

You will help ensure smooth unit operations and a positive patient experience in a fast-paced environment at the Overland Park campus. Responsibilities include coordinating calls, assisting with patient transfers in Meditech, and discharge follow-up.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification required upon hire.
• Excellent interpersonal and computer skills required.
• Ability to multitask and be a 'go getter'.
• Public contact and clerical experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Microsoft Office and multi-line phone knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Unit Secretary handles daily clerical operations of the nursing unit, serves as receptionist, and maintains supplies/equipment.
• Supports RNs and contributes to a positive patient experience, including patient care items and meal companionship.
• Stocking nutrition rooms, coordinating calls, transferring calls, discharge follow-ups, and patient transfer in/out of Meditech.

Schedule: 6:45am-7:15pm (3-12s per week), working opposite hours of the other Uni Sec.

Job Summary and Qualifications

What You Will Do in This Role:

• The Unit Secretary is responsible and accountable for the daily clerical operations of the nursing unit, performs receptionist duties and maintains supplies/equipment for the unit.

• The Unit Secretary participates in a positive patient experience including supporting RNs in the delivery of patient care items and providing meal companionship to patients

• The Unit Secretary will stock nutrition rooms, call consults, transfer phone calls, make discharge phone calls, grab tele boxes and transfer patients in and out of meditech.

What Qualifications You Will Need:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.

• American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification required upon hire.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and computer skills are required.

• Looking for a "go getter" and the ability to multitask.

• Public contact and clerical experience preferred.

• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple functions preferred.

• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

• Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and multi-line phone preferred.
