Job summary

AdventHealth Ocala in Florida is seeking a skilled Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonographer to perform echocardiography and vascular ultrasound studies. The role requires operating ultrasound systems, producing high-quality images, and communicating findings to physicians.

You should have an Associate's degree (preferred) with RDCS/RVT/RCS/RVS credentials or be eligible, and at least 1+ year of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Must perform a full range of diagnostic echocardiogram and/or vascular ultrasound procedures.
  • Must operate all ultrasound systems and use measurement packages to assess anatomy and function.
  • Must recognize significant structures, artifacts, and pathology.
  • Ability to explain procedures to patients clearly.
  • Basic EKG knowledge.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Must read, write and speak English.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge to address age-appropriate patient communication and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex imaging studies and assist with a variety of procedures.
  • Obtain high-quality scans tailored to each patient.
  • Enter patient data, results, and demographics into records.
  • Communicate abnormal findings to physicians and coordinate procedures.
  • Handle scheduling, insurance verification, authorization, coding, and billing activities.
  • Set up and adjust imaging equipment and maneuver transducers.
  • Maintain a clean, safe department and orderly rooms and storage areas.
  • Maintain inventory and restock supplies.

Job Description
  • Performs routine and complex studies, in addition to assisting with a variety of imaging procedures.
  • Consistently obtains the highest quality scans possible in relation to patient body habitus.
  • Adapts procedure to each patient’s medical situation obtaining all available necessary information for proper interpretation.
  • Enters testing conditions, observations, test results, and patient demographic information into patient records.
  • Communicates abnormal findings to the reading physicians and notifies the physicians of procedures to be interpreted.
  • Performs scheduling, insurance verification, authorization, coding, billing, and reimbursement activities.
  • Sets up and adjusts imaging equipment while manually maneuvering transducers to perform exams.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area, and other departmental regions.
  • Maintains supply inventory and restocks to maintain proper operating levels.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be able to perform a full range of diagnostic echocardiogram and/or vascular ultrasound procedures. [Required]
  • Must be able to operate all ultrasound systems in the assigned department and utilize the measurement package for measuring and calculating to determine anatomy, function, and status according to standard of care. [Required]
  • Must be able to recognize significant anatomical structures, artifacts, pathology. [Required]
  • Ability to effectively communicate and explain procedures to patients in a clear and concise manner. [Required]
  • Basic EKG Knowledge. [Required]
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. [Required]
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area, and other departmental regions. [Required]
  • Up-to-date knowledge to appropriately interpret image data and consequently determine which images to save and which to discard. [Required]
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the healthcare industry. [Required]
  • Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English. [Required]
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematic skills. [Required]
  • Must be able to function independently with little or no supervision. [Required]
  • Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to address age-appropriate considerations relating to the communication and safety needs of the patient populations served within the department. [Required]
  • Proficiency in pediatric echocardiography [Preferred]
  • Proficiency in transesophageal echocardiography [Preferred]
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of echocardiography. [Required]
