Summary: The Cardiac Technician assists the nursing staff in monitoring the heart rhythms of patients on telemetry. The ability to interpret dysrhythmias and respond quickly and appropriately in the notification of nursing staff is essential. Some record keeping and posting of rhythm strips may be required. This position is also responsible for working as a team member within the Non-Invasive Cardiology area to perform electrocardiographs. This position is also responsible for the clerical operation of the EKG area. Clerical functions include preparation of data for physician interpretation, transcription, filing and reporting to the medical record.
High School diploma or equivalent required. Prior training in EKG rhythm strip interpretation preferred. Successful completion of an EKG interpretation course and able to score 85% on rhythm strip exam required within 6 weeks in position.
