Job summary

Baptist Health is seeking a Cardiac Technician to support telemetry monitoring and EKG procedures at Baptist Medical Center South. You will assist nursing staff with rhythm assessment, interpret rhythms, and perform clerical tasks in the EKG area.

This role requires teamwork within the Non-Invasive Cardiology unit and attention to data preparation for physician interpretations. Qualifications include a high school diploma, EKG interpretation training, and the ability to achieve 85% on rhythm

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior training in EKG rhythm strip interpretation preferred.
  • Completion of an EKG interpretation course with 85% on rhythm strip exam within 6 weeks in position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist nursing staff in monitoring heart rhythms on telemetry.
  • Interpret dysrhythmias and notify nursing staff as needed.
  • Record keeping and posting of rhythm strips may be required.
  • Collaborate in the Non-Invasive Cardiology area to perform electrocardiographs.
  • Clerical operation of the EKG area, including data preparation for physician interpretation, transcription, filing and reporting to medical records.

Highlights

Summary: The Cardiac Technician assists the nursing staff in monitoring the heart rhythms of patients on telemetry. The ability to interpret dysrhythmias and respond quickly and appropriately in the notification of nursing staff is essential. Some record keeping and posting of rhythm strips may be required. This position is also responsible for working as a team member within the Non-Invasive Cardiology area to perform electrocardiographs. This position is also responsible for the clerical operation of the EKG area. Clerical functions include preparation of data for physician interpretation, transcription, filing and reporting to the medical record.

Education / Experience

High School diploma or equivalent required. Prior training in EKG rhythm strip interpretation preferred. Successful completion of an EKG interpretation course and able to score 85% on rhythm strip exam required within 6 weeks in position.

License / Certification

BLS required

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Position requires sitting for 80% of the workday and mobility 20% of the workday.

  • Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
