Job summary

Mercy seeks a Cardiac Sonographer – Lead to perform diagnostic and interventional imaging, lead the team when leadership is unavailable, and coordinate daily workloads in a fast-paced clinical setting.

The role requires ARDMS RDCS or CCI RCS certification, BLS, and either two years of experience or a Bachelor’s degree. Strong communication with patients and clinicians is essential to maintain imaging quality and patient safety.

• Graduate of Sonography program with required clinical hours or on-the-job training under a registered Cardiac ultrasound preceptor.
• Two years of relevant experience or a Bachelor degree.
• State licensure may be required depending on practice state.
• ARDMS (RDCS) or CCI (RCS); Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

Job description

Find your calling at Mercy! The Cardiac Sonographer – Lead performs a variety of diagnostic and interventional procedures assisting in diagnosing and monitoring a wide range of medical conditions. This role requires proficiency and thorough understanding of operating imaging equipment and procedures while ensuring patient safety and maintaining imaging standards. Responsibilities also include serving as lead when direct leadership is unavailable, coordinating daily work assignments and assisting in training. Effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals is essential for providing optimal care.

Position Details:

Minimum Qualifications: Education: Graduate of a school of Sonography and completed required clinical hours OR received on the job training by a Preceptor who is registered in Cardiac ultrasound.

Experience: Two (2) years of relevant experience OR graduate of Bachelor degree program.

Licensure: State licensure may be required depending on the specific state of practice.

Certification: ARDMS (RDCS) or CCI(RCS); Basic Life Support (BLS).

• Ability to lead and motivate a team, manage schedules, and coordinate daily operations.
• Capability to make informed decisions regarding imaging procedures, patient care, and team management.
• Ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, such as performing imaging procedures while supervising team members.
• Knowledge in proficiency producing diagnostic images with the ability to recognize technical abnormalities.
• Knowledge of a variety of advanced procedures as applicable.
• Knowledge of safe & proper machine operation, machine emergency procedures and radiation safety procedures.
• Knowledge of protocols and ability to make adjustments as needed.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex instructions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Physical Requirements:

• Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
• Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
• Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
