Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System in La Plata, MD is seeking a cardiac sonography technologist to perform routine and specialized echo procedures under general supervision.

Schedule: Dayshift Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm with rotating weekends every other week; ensure accurate documentation in EHR, and participate in clinical ladder and quality initiatives.

RDMS or CCI certification and BLS; minimum 1 year experience preferred; graduation from accredited Ultrasound program required.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved and accredited Ultrasound Education Program.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience.
  • RDMS Certification OR CCI Certification.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).

Responsibilities

  • Executes basic clinical competence in cardiac sonography, in all locations, across all patient types; selects accurate equipment and factors per patient.
  • Participates in the Clinical Ladder Program, if implemented, at the hospital/location.
  • Applies knowledge of cardiac sonographic principles including anatomy, physiology, physics, positioning and patient care; adheres to regulatory standards.
  • Documents accurate patient care activity in electronic health records systems.
  • Maintains a safe work environment; manages supplies and reports equipment/environmental issues.
  • Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs routine and specialized cardiac sonographic procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.

  • Key Responsibility 1: Executes basic clinical competence in cardiac sonography, in all locations, across all patient types. Selects accurate equipment and technical factors on an individual patient basis and demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age of the patient.
  • Actively participates in the Clinical Ladder Program, if implemented, at the individual System hospital/location, meeting and maintaining all Program standards and requirements.
  • Key Responsibility 2: Applies knowledge of cardiac sonographic principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, physics, positioning and patient care skills. Adheres to Joint Commission, State, Federal and departmental regulatory compliance standards.
  • Key Responsibility 3: Documents accurate patient care activity in various electronic health records systems.
  • Key Responsibility 4: Ensures a safe and appropriate work environment. Maintains supplies and inventory in area. Informs appropriate colleague when supplies need to be ordered from outside vendors. Documents and reports related equipment/environmental problems in accordance with policy.
  • Key Responsibility 5: Actively participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and efforts to improve workflows, patient experience and quality. Actively participates in student and employee training and educational activities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Education & Experience - Required
  • Graduation from an approved and accredited Ultrasound Education Program
  • Minimum 1 years of experience
  • RDMS Certification OR CCI Certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
