Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking a skilled Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist to perform high-quality echocardiography studies, including m-mode, 2D, Doppler, and stress echoes. The role involves assisting physicians with transesophageal exams, following policies, and ensuring patient comfort.

Responsibilities include operating ultrasound equipment, documenting results, and maintaining QA and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Must hold RDCS/ARDMS or RCS/CCI certification.
• BLS certification is required.
• Registry eligible within 1 year after formal training.
• Experience in echocardiography laboratory and adherence to protocols.

Responsibilities

• Specializes in performing cardiac ultrasound diagnostic studies.
• Obtains patient history and explains procedures to ease patient anxiety.
• Operates and maintains ultrasound equipment and selects appropriate transducers.
• Positions patients and captures images as directed by physicians.
• Completes QA processes and complies with Joint Commission and regulatory standards.
• Maintains documentation and records in paper and electronic formats.
• Performs routine maintenance and checks on imaging equipment.
• Stays current with knowledge through workshops and professional societies.

Position Summary:

Performs high quality cardiac ultrasound procedures that require ingenuity, initiative and independent judgment on patients. Performs m-mode, two dimensional cardiac ultrasound, Doppler color flow studies, stress echos and AV optimization procedures; assists physician with transesophageal exams. Follows department policies and protocols.

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Specializes in performing cardiac ultrasound diagnostic studies.
• Obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence to patients and ensure the needs of individual patients are met.
• Operates and maintains all assigned ultrasound scanning equipment to ensure it works properly.
• Positions patients, selects appropriate transducers and machine settings and conducts scanning procedures to correctly capture the images requested by a physician.
• Completes quality assurance processes and practices. Complies with all Joint Commission, federal, state, and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols.
• Maintains all required documentation, logs, charts, forms and records in paper and electronic formats.
• Maintains an adequate supply of all consumables to perform quality testing.
• Performs all routine daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic maintenance and function checks following established protocol for all imaging equipment.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High School diploma or GED
• Certified as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
• or- Satisfactory completion of a formal cardiac sonographer training program (1-4 years) must be registry eligible and attain certification within one year.
• or- Graduate from a diagnostic ultrasound training program (2-4 years) with 1 full additional year of full-time clinical experience in a dedicated echocardiography laboratory and registry eligible and attain certification within one year.
• or- Two years of college with emphasis on the biological sciences with two years experience in a dedicated echocardiography laboratory and registry eligible and attain certification within one year.
• Current BLS certification

Position/Subsidiary Specific:

• Experience with 3D imaging
• Experience with structural heart cases
• Certified as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 6 months .
