Job summary

Boston Childrens Hospital seeks a Cardiac Sonographer II to perform high-level pediatric echocardiography across diverse patient profiles, from normal anatomy to complex congenital disease. You will work independently through all care phases, including intraoperative imaging under anesthesia and post-operative assessments.

The role requires 2+ years of pediatric echocardiography experience, RDCS-PE certification, and BLS.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in pediatric echocardiography.
  • 5+ years of experience preferred.
  • RDCS-PE certification required.
  • BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform comprehensive echocardiographic examinations in lab or bedside.
  • Supervise exam provision, monitor workflow, ensure imaging protocols.
  • Explain procedures and scheduling updates to patients and families.
  • Educate trainees and fellows in echocardiography procedures and interpretation.
  • Maintain ultrasound equipment, inventory, and clinical logs.
  • Assist in clinical research data collection.

Position Summary

As a Cardiac Sonographer II, you will perform high-level cardiac ultrasound examinations across a wide range of patient profiles, from normal cardiac anatomy to complex congenital heart disease. You will operate independently across all phases of care, including diagnostic evaluations, pre-operative workflows, intraoperative imaging under anesthesia, and post-operative evaluations with complex surgical repairs.


Key Responsibilities


  • Clinical Imaging: Plan case methodology and perform comprehensive echocardiographic examinations in the non-invasive lab or bedside via portable equipment.

  • Lab Leadership: Supervise the provision of examinations, monitor workflow, and ensure adherence to established imaging protocols.

  • Patient & Family Care: Establish clear, supportive communication with patients and families, explaining procedures and keeping them informed of scheduling updates.

  • Education & Mentorship: Provide instruction on echocardiography procedures and image interpretation for sonographers, trainees, and cardiology fellows.

  • Lab Operations: Maintain and evaluate ultrasound equipment, manage supply inventory to par levels, and maintain clinical logs and documentation.

  • Research Support: Assist in clinical research studies by explaining protocols to staff and overseeing required data collection.


Qualifications


  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Biology, Nursing, or a related field preferred. Completion of an accredited Cardiac Ultrasound program in pediatric echocardiography.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in pediatric echocardiography required (5+ years preferred).

  • Licensure & Certifications:

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in Pediatric Echocardiography (RDCS-PE) required.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
